The winner of Designworld's summer prize draw is... Calendar

Congratulations to Jane Tyler - hair and make-up artist to the stars - who was the lucky winner of Designworld's summer prize draw.

Jane works with celebrities such as Amanda Holden and Kerry Katona and has recently been involved with Britain's Got Talent and the X Factor. Designworld designed and produced Jane's latest website which showcases her great work.

Designworld help British Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists' Congress go with a swing Calendar

Many thanks to David Peel for these kind words about the work we did for BSHAA 's annual Congress:

"Just in case the system forgets to thank you and Louise for your help to ensure our Congress went with a swing, can I formally record our appreciation.

"By general consent the printed programme was the best ever but those who pass comment rarely appreciate the extra that you both put in when, with

our backs to the wall, we forget some vital piece of printed material or lack the necessary artistic skills to fulfil some vague creative idea rumbling around in our brains. Ceri and Louise, take a bow".

The winner of the Designworld Easter Egg Hunt is... Calendar

Congratulations to Louise O'Neill of Children in Wales who was the lucky winner of Designworld's Easter Egg Hunt. The Easter Bunny will have one last job this year as that luxury 'Hotel Chocolat' egg will be with Louise shortly.

There was a great response to our Easter Egg Hunt and thanks to everyone who entered.

Designworld are proud to support another winning team Calendar

We were recently comissioned to design and produce the souvenir programme for the Cardiff Schools Under 15s rugby tour to Canada. This was a big job with a tight deadliine, but we're pleased to say that everything went without a hitch - much like the tour iteself.

The boys were unbeaten on the tour, against some very physical Canadian opposition.

By all accounts the boys were a credit to their team, city and country. Congratulations to the boys and all involved in the tour.

The Cardiff Story… lots more than the Arms Park, a pint of Dark and a Clark's pie Calendar

Attended a Family & Friends private view of the new Cardiff Story museum last night. The boys loved it: the youngest broke an exhibit and the oldest was impressed by the free cakes ("that's how you know it's a special event, my son"). I was taken with the feature on the Clark family who said people were always surprised that there were just six of them making their famous pies in the back of the shop. "That way we can concentrate on quality and what we do best" - a sentiment we very much relate to at Designworld.

If it doesn’t have CLARPIE on the base – it’s not a genuine Clarksie!

Two hours in a museum with young kids isn't really enough to get an in-depth view but the feeling I had was that it was a great museum with lots of interesting interactive exhibits and facts and I left with two thoughts - first, that I must go back soon and second, where can I get a Clark's Pie?

Happy St David's Day! Forgot your daff? Download our DIY daffodil kit Calendar

Happy St David's Day to everyone. It was like a knee-high international day in Canton this morning as throngs wearing Welsh rugby shirts and other forms of traditional Welsh costume made their way to school. Didn't see any brave souls wearing an actual grown-in-the-ground leek though, which is a shame. If you forgot to pin on your regalia this morning, download our DIY Daff and make your own.

Ceri has Monday morning bragging rights, but it's honours even for the season Calendar

Designworld share a kitchen with the other businesses in Temple Court and we always get comments about our two mugs (that's actual mugs, rather than our faces) and you can see why from the picture. This was especially true after this weekend with the big south Wales derby taking place at the Liberty. Thanks to Craig Bellamy it was Ceri who had the biggest smile on Monday morning, but it was honours even for the season after the Swans won at the CCS.

Of course there's always a chance they'll meet again in the playoffs and a Wembley final between the two would certainly make life tense in the Designworld studio. Here's hoping that it'll be automatic promotion for them both come the end of the season...

They say that an electrician's doorbell never rings... Calendar

...but a design agency's website has to look and do the business. Though it had served us well for the last couple of years, we felt our old website needed a bit of an overhaul to keep up with technology, design styles and - of course - our expanding portfolio.

Our clients are always telling us that it's the hardest thing coming up with your own self-promotion - that's why they come to us for advice - but we managed to schedule the time at the start of the year (traditionally our quietest period) to get things moving.

Metal Type
It can't be antique if I used it in college

Now it's launched we'll wait with baited breath for those webstats to come in. We're very happy with the finished product and think it's got the right combination of form and function - not too fussy, easy to use and gets the point across in a few clicks. We hope everyone likes it and pops back here once in a while to see what else we've been up to.

Vaughan Oliver nominated for a Grammy Award for Pixies 'Minotaur' box set Calendar

One of my favourite contemporary graphic designers, Vaughan Oliver, has been nominated for a Grammy Award for his work on the Pixies limited edition box set 'Minotaur'.

Oliver, together with photographer Simon Larbalestier created the iconic artwork for all of Pixies' original studio albums and took their 'house style' onto the graphics for many of the 4AD label's artisits.

Minotaur
"...we listen to the sea and look at the sky in a poetic kind of way..."
In addition to reinterpreting all of the original album covers, 'Minotaur' features Oliver and Larbalestier's extensive work in a 96-page fine art book and an additional 54-page book. Also included is a giclee print of the duo's work, and two double-sided fold-out posters. If you have $450 to spare, you can purchase 'Minotaur' or just view more of Vaughan Oliver's work.
